Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Haven't done one of these for awhile.  Saw this one over the weekend.  True, it's somewhat the same type of comedy as Judd Apatow's previous projects but it's sort of getting old.  True, he's a producer but it seems they're trying to make you believe this is his film which in my opinion isn't really at all.  At least this film didn't make you think you were in the 70s.

The cast was top notch.  Using lesser known actors was definitely a plus.  I'm not sure that Jason Segel has what it takes to be the lead star but since he wrote the film I guess he gets to put himself in.  Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis both are great as with Russell Brand, a very funny british comedian who I think looks like Captain Jack.

The story starts off with Peter Bretter (Segel) whose a music composer trying to get a big break into the industry but technically just being supported by his girlfriend.  He's going out with Sarah Marshall, a top tv actress.  Peter, who isn't really trying too hard finishing up his puppet musical based on Dracula, gets the surprising news from Sarah that she wants out of the relationship.  Peter takes the break up hard, so to clear his mind he goes to Hawaii.  Not only does he see Sarah there but she's already with a new guy Aldous Snow (Brand).

The movie was fun to watch but just didn't compare to Knocked Up or Superbad.  It did have its moments but it just seemed like certain jokes were played out way too much.  I think male nudity is as funny as the next person but once you keep seeing it, it just turns out to be disgusting.  And after the middle of the movie Segel's crying and moaning just became annoying.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall gets a 6 out of 10.
