I know the whole superhero fad is underway but how bad can you miss on it? Most superhero movies are at the very least not THAT bad. So when Doug Liman (Director of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity) tries his hand at the genre, you would think it would be a good movie...
WRONG!
Sorry I'm getting ahead of myself. Lets take a look at the plot. So David (Hayden Christensen) learns that he can teleport when he's an angsty teen and runs away because he has nothing of meaning in his old life except this girl that he likes. He begins robbing banks with his teleporting skills and makes a nice living for himself. He comes back to his original hometown and meets up with his teen crush. They somehow both agree to go to Italy together but trouble arises. He learns of a secret organization whose sole purpose is to kill everyone that has this teleportation powers led by Roland (Samuel L. Jackson). With the help of another "jumper" they try to put an end to the organization.
I'm sorry for anyone that does like this movie but I just can't see why you would. For a superhero movie the action was VERY bad. I can choreograph better fight scenes with lego blocks (make note that I said 'blocks'). Hayden Christensen's role isn't as bad as I originally thought but I had REALLY low expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's still bad. There are a ton of elements very similar to the tone set in the bourne films but instead of trying to bank off the success of the bourne films, it just makes them seem like they're trying too hard. This movie that was a huge miss and the sad thing was that they left it open in case they were to make a sequel. God I hope not.
Jumper gets a 3 out of 10.
