Since photography has become quite a hobby of mine, I decided to create a whole new category for it. So now I can bore you more with things you don't care about. I recently just got the STO-FEN Omni-bounce and I must say that it isn't as bad as I thought. What this little piece of plastic does is that it just fits right over your flash and diffuses the light.
You can see on the left is my messy room without the omni-bounce and to the right is with the omni-bounce. You can see that the light spreads out more on the right which is what it was supposed to do. Also you get a much cooler white balance. My initial concern was that the power of your flash is greatly reduced with the plastic over top. Less flash... less light. So it was a little hard to realize how you can "appear" to have more of the room lighted when you have less power. So I went on to a bigger room.
I'm sorry that you have to see my disgusting house but it was the only pictures I took as reference. So as you can see, it's still pretty good in a mid sized room. I was convinced. This crappy molded plastic was "cheap" (still expensive for just a piece of plastic if you think about it) but it did the job. I may have to retire my ghetto business card bounce card setup now. haha embarrassing. The good thing about the omni-bounce is that it fits right on the flash and doesn't require a huge amount of extra space. I was considering the lightsphere as a ton of people recommended it but in my vastly decreasing space in my small camera bag, I wouldn't be able to fit it in. Last but not least, I did a fairly big sized room with a lot of crap in it (this isn't hard to find at all in my house). Down to the spooky basement I go.
As you can see, it still performs pretty well. I'm not too sure exactly how it does with fill light outdoors but it does give you better photographer cred. My sister told me she was wondering if I was going to get one because she sees all photographers have one. So when working with the omni-bounce, put it on... tilt 45 or higher... and start shooting. Pretty easy.
