I got out of the house yesterday and went to go shoot. I've been waiting to shoot this place at sunrise since the start of winter. Just never got round to it because it's been so cold. Supposedly with it being spring you would think that its warmed up a bit but it turns out that when I went it was 26 degrees out. Here I am thinking its already spring so I just went out in a hoodie and jeans. I guess its all a mental thing. If you think its warm it'll be warm.
Well I got there a little late because i wasn't so sure if it'd be a good sunrise to shoot. Last time I went out at sunrise, the morning fog was everywhere. But this was a good day. I went to the Thomas A. Dixon Observation Park which is just below the main runway for BWI. I knew it was going to be a bit of a problem arriving late cause the sun was full force right in my eye. With no neutral gradient filter, I decided to try something new... HDR photography.
Not too bad for my first try. What you're looking at is one photo that's been merged by a combination of photos taken at different exposures. So your highlights aren't blown or your foreground isn't just a silhouette. Some people like this technique... Some don't. I think the photos do look really cool but then again it is just a little bit of cheating because its done in post processing. There was no way around it for me though. With the sun in your face its impossible to correctly expose for the sky AND the scene with just the equipment I have.
Very cold but fun.
