Saw these movies after seeing sean buy IA2 in NY chinatown.
I had no clue what to expect from these movies. At first i thougt it would be some horrible fobbish movie because of the title but if Tony Leung is in it, it has to be awesome (i love that man).
The movie had a VERY good premise to build upon. The HK police has an undercover cop in the triad and the triad has someone working in the police force (undercover gangster?). You can already sense a winner with that plot.
IA does some justice to it and produces a good but not as great as it could have been type film. There were many loose ends and miscellanious scenes that i guess could be left to explain in the sequels but as for a self standing movie, you would just be asking yourself "what was that about?" Of course being directed by andy lau, he is the character that is focused upon and the most dynamic. Leung's character was "too goody goody" which is a shame because the audience can't witness his full potential as an actor.
Scorcese is making an american release version of IA with Matt Damon and Leo deCaprio. (has to be the stupidest person in the world if he screws this up)
Infernal Affairs gets a 8 out of 10.
